I use AVG. Kaspersky is very good in my experience, and I've heard
good things about Nod32, but never used it...

I've used NOD32 in the past and while it looks basic it does appear to be a decent scanner. If I'm honest it looks a lot like a Windows 3.11 application!

I've heard (But I don't know how true it is) that Microsoft use it to scan their servers. If they do it can't be too bad an app; they have some of the most virus ridden code around!

Cheers,

Dean

I used to use Symantec 2005, but found it to be painfully
resource hungry. Everytime it scanned something my PC
(P4 3Ghz 512mb yada yada) ground to a halt.

I now use AVG Free and am extremely impressed. To the point
I'm thinking about upgrading to their paid for version.

That's what I tend to find about the "big names" such as McAfee, Symantec etc. It sits there and slows everything down; no wonder you don't get a virus, it can't get any CPU or IO to DO anything!

yeah, that is how i felt when i moved over, plus the fact you are paying for something to slow your machine down!! At one point i had avg and norton on at the same time and avg found the virus i had and norton didn't :s not sure how that worked!!

I've heard somewhere that conflicting AV suites can cause problems... not sure exactly what the problems it's meant to cause are like.

Something about loopholes for viri.

All very odd; sounds like a ploy to make you buy more software if you ask me!

right now, None. Anti virus tend to slow things down, can't really avoid
it if it should scan every single action.

as long as nobody execute malicious code, there is no chance for any
virus, except worms and trojans - which can be blocked by Firewall.

so, anti virus is good for users who are tempted to execute stuff they
do not know, or don't have Firewall.

anyhow, I guess that if I would be convinced sometime to use anti
virus, I would try AVG or Kaspersky.
