Why do people insist on doing this????
Now I could be wrong, maybe he is just wanting to brush up, but from my experience this probably isn't the case.

people always look for easier life... and as learning new stuff is considered hard task for many people, they prefer to skip this and have others do this for them. well, you can't blame them for seeking easier life can you?

I blame them for trying to take a shortcut, when so many of us have had to struggle to get where we are.
I blame them for wasting the interviewers time by spouting out memorized answers, then once they get the job (if they get it) they don't know what their doing, and the company and interviewer have to spend more time and money finding someone who is competent. I blame them for thinking that someone else will just hand them the keys to a better career, without having to work for it. I blame them for their own ignorance of the technology, and arrogance in thinking that memorizing some questions makes them a competent developer. I blame them for my hands hurting right now because I have had to type all of this. I blame them for getting me riled! |

I blame them for tarnishing the image of freelancers by their inability to accomplish the simplest of tasks.
I blame them for keeping the rates for development jobs so low and cut throat. I blame them for my receding hairline, brought on by a combination of the above two factors.

From someone who occasionally has to interview these kinds of freaks, please don't worry. It is really easy to tell the difference between an experienced programmer and a wanna be.
This guy will never be able to take projects away from a free-lancer because that is all about skill. If he ever worms his way into a corporation, he'll likely be promoted out of any job where he can do any harm (there's always room for another pointy-hair.) |

im not really sure about the experience you talked about.
the boss just enrolled a new trainee. we gave him win2k autobootable cd and asked him to install it on some old computer the company dont use anymore so they could sell em. The man has just completed a 3 year Cegep training. Belive it or not, he came back at the end of the day saying that one of the day saying : "one of the computer is not working im reinstalling it again and again and it will never work" we looked at the screen and saw : "boot disk failure in drive a:\" This is supposed to be a well trained computer technician ?

sadly enough, most of these cases happen when the bosses themselves lack the very basic skills... thus for them anyone with more knowledge than themselves is brilliant programmer that know just about everything.
