Well why don't you move to the central Wisconsin area and get land for $2500-3000 an acre Yeah when my parents bought our 80 like 15 years ago they paid like $300 an acre. Land is really starting to skyrocket here but I see it doesn't compare to south of here

So I take it when you buy land for $2500-3000 an acre - there are no power supplies in the near vicinity. Do you have to be self-sufficient when it comes to power. By the way that's like £1700 for an acre of land - you could build a large house on that here and make an absolute fortune by selling it on. Best of luck on your project - it seems a great thing to do - build your own home. Years from now you could tell your kids - I built that. Cool.

Update
UPDATE: A few weeks later and we have a big hole! The house will be here in 2 or 3 weeks (modular home) - this is getting exciting!

HEH - is that going to be a problem?

Our house is modular or manufactured. A modular home is created in a large warehouse, in my case Michigan and will come in a few pieces to the lot (Wisconsin).

Some of the pro's of going modular:
  • 2x6 construction
  • no delays because of weather
  • Cheaper!

It really is a neat process! If anyone is interested in more I can pass on some more information!
