Interview with various Microsoft employees
'Lo guys
After being instigated by Channel9 (http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=34005 (And I'm W3bbo, btw)) I managed to get through to one of Microsoft's PR "interview-arrangers" people. ...For an interview (shock horror, sister!)... with Microsoft's IE dev team, and if possible, Microsoft's CIO. I was wondering if any of you have any specific questions, queries, or comments regarding the development of IE, and more specifically, IE7 which may, or may not, come with Longhorn (before... if we're lucky) ...Or if you want to take part in the interview (I requested that IRC be the medium, as this is the most flexible and shows my Neutral stance (as Microsoft has made their own IRC client... who remembers "ComicChat"? ))Ciao! |

I don't have any specific questions. I am looking forward to reading the results of your interview though.

ComicChat - that's a blast from the past. I was always a funky alien if I remember rightly!

AFAIK, EFNet bans clients connecting using ComicChat because of its bastardised implementation of the IRC protocol.
For one... when you were in Comic-Mode, it prefixed all your chat strings with werid status codes... despite the IRC protocol supporting meta data already. Likewise, the "official" MSChat servers didn't support non-Microsoft IRC clients. (They also used ports for servers which middle-america was more likely to take up... well, you do feel a bit uneasy about connecting to port 6667, right? )...Then they shut the whole thing down in 2001 and replaced it with "MSN Chat" along with a load of ActiveX controls, rendering the site useless to non-IE users. |

which I wouldn't mind if IE weren't so annoying to use.
