using floats and margins for layout doesn't feel right to me either. I keep trying to find something that's more appealing to me than div tags for layout. Thankfully, tables have not been deprecated and are still compiant with W3C standards for XHTML 1.1

I'm still waiting for browsers to start supporting the <ruby> tag so I can play with how it might effect layouts.
