Simple google question
I'm pretty good with coding sites, but i've mainly always done stuff in intranets/closed networks.
I'm redesigning a site for a friend. He already has a site that comes up very well in google. Its an old site written in jsp, the new site is a simple site in ASP. If i keep the same domain, but move him over to another server, and put the meta tags from the old site code into the new site, will it still come up well in google? Its his business and very important that he gets good coverage on google. Currently its excellent, so im thinking if google works using domains then it shouldnt notice the switch, but if it uses IPs then will it still work???? Thanks in advance ![]() |

as far as I know, Google work with links, and only links.
I assume that links to that website are using the domain so in this one you're covered. however, if you change page names it will affect greatly: links will point on pages that no longer exist (for example link to page1.jsp which is now page1.asp) and thus you would lose much. also if you change inner links it will affect results, though I can't say for sure how or what is the severity. |

That's what I thought, as long as the links still exist somewhere, it should still come up in google as normal.
The old site uses session variables and things in theurl strings, so he cant currently link to pages in the site, only the main homepage www.website.com, so no worries there, there shouldnt be any other links out there anyway as they dont currently work! Thanks very much ![]() |
