Question How to delete after security added

Hi everyone, hope you all had a Merry Christmas.

I'm wrapping up db for work and was ready to add the user level security. I did it at home first (have a copy of the db) to get it tweaked before applying there. My problem is, now I can not figure out how to remove the security all together, and the system won't let me delete the files, says they're in use by person or program. For at home, I'd like to have it as before, where I can open the db from the file location and not have to go through the desktop icon and delete everything when I'm ready.
Thanks for any help. This is my first post but I do a lot of thread browsing.
Jim

You can unsecure the database by importing all objects from it into a new databse.
But before, don't forget you need to grant administrative permissions to the default Admin user in the database, and create the new database as the default Admin user.

Thanks, but...

Thanks, and hopefully I'm understanding you correctly. However if I import all items into a new db, won't the secure one still be there? If so, how can I delete it and it associated files? I have an unsecure version on a CF card, so getting the unsecure version isn't an issue, just getting rid of the secure one. I guess it just bugs me that there's something on my computer taking up space that I can't delete.
By the way, great post with the extensive instructions on securing a db. I copied it down for future use.

Happy Holidays
Jim

I am afraid I misunderstood you. So you wish to delete the access database as a file itself, right?
When the database is opened it's not possible.
However, managing file usage on a server is a task for the server and as far as I know Access has nothing to do with that and Access security settings are ignored by the OS both on the server and on the workstation.
If the server does not allow you to delete a file (any file!), first make sure no one uses the file and if still can't delete it contact your system admin.

Actually it's on my PC at home

The file(s) are actually on my home PC. No server or network, just the regualr ol' desktop. That's why it's so confusing. With just windows explorer open, I can't delete the files associated with the db. Weird.

This is nothing to do with Access security. OS does not know that it's secured or not.
OS thinks for some reason that the file is in use.
Anyway, what types of file do you want to delete (mdb, ldb, mdw)?

Yes, all the above

Actually the ldb is no longer there (odd) but when attempting to delete it and the mdw, that's when the "error" popped up. Once it's in full operation at work, there's no need for me to have it on my drive, so deletion of the entire folder everything resides in is my goal.

Thanks
Jim

ldb file cannot be deleted

The ldb file stores the record locking information of the database and is automatically created when you open the database. The ldb file has the same name as the database that associated to it. As long as the database is opened, its ldb and mdw files cannot be deleted.
When no one uses the database, the ldb file is automatically destroyed.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. For some reason, the lbd file wasn't going away before, but now that it's gone everything seems to be working.

Thanks for the time and effort.
