MS Developer Extension and Runtime

Several post in the recent past asked the question of how to package the db for distribution and how to run the Access db in computer not installed with Access. Before Access 2007, you must purchase another program for about one thousand dollar to do this. Microsoft now offer these two programs "Developer Extensions" and "Runtime" for free. The Developer Extension is a program that will package your db into an installation disk. You can package the Runtime program in the install disk for users that use computers without Access 2007. Here are the links to the MS website for the download.

Great information. I think the value and worth of my previous app that you referred to just dumped in to the toilet

Again, thanks and great info!

I actually did quite a bit of research a few years back regarding distributing the Access runtime file (versions 97, XP, 2002/2003) for using an mdb on computers without the full version of MSAccess (as owner of a development company, I wanted to distribute my mdb/mde files to some non-MSAccess owners and had several, several conversations with Microsoft on this topic confirming this at that time). As long as you (the developer or your company) had purchased the "Developer's Edition" (which used to sell for around $200-$300, but I believe Toyman is correct in that the 2007 runtime can now freely be distributed), you could "legally" distribute the Access runtime file to the user's computer who is using your developed mdb/mde. But if I recall, the "Developer's Edition" is no longer sold by Microsoft (but you "may" still be able to buy it by 3rd parties) but the only reason I could now see you'd want the "Developer's Edition" is for all the additional "goodies" (a lot of them) that come with it which don't normally come with MSAccess/Office since you can apparently distribute the 2007 runtime file for free (if the 2007 runtime works ok for all previous Access versions as my research was regarding older versions.)
