owner unknown
After building a database i used User Level Security Wizzard to set secured accounts for the database.
I subsequesntly moved the database (and database only) from the drive where it was built to to a networked drive. the Backup unsecured version of the database has been deleted and the default system.mdw file does not allow me access to make changes to the database. In the security settings on the database the owner of all of the items in the database is listed as unknown and i have been unable to assign an owner to these items. Can anyone help? |

Do you have the .mdw file that you joined to when you were running the wizard?
If yes the open your database with the following command line (eg. create a shortcut and put this onto the Target field): [database_full_path]\[database_file_name] /wrkgrp [path_to_mdw_file]\[mdw_file_name] example: "C:\MyDatabases\MyDatabase.mdb" /wrkgrp "C:\MyWorkGroups\MyWorkGroup.mdw" and log on as the Admin user that you defined (and hopefully assigned the ownership) in mdw file you used when you were running the wizard.

...and some piece of advice:
1. NEVER delete the unsecured copy UNLESS you are ABSOLUTELY SURE that everything is working fine with your secured one eg. you can log on to the database as a user who has the ownership and 'Administer' permission to ALL objects. 2. When you create the users in the new MDW file then ALWAYS make note of the users' PIDs because the users are identified by their PID. Note: once a PID is created it cannot be retrieved or overwritten. I recommend to look at the folowing URL where I explained how to secure a database: http://forums.aspfree.com/t20441/s3...e812eef960.html |
