Updateable form?? Customized autonumber??

Hi all,

I've been facing a problem when using a form. I wanted to make it updatable, as in the user can input data into the database just by using the form. But when I wanted to edit the information on the form, it says "Recordset not updateable". May I know what seems to be the problem here?

Besides this, I actually have a main form "PARTS_FOR_REPAIRS" with a subform "PARTS_FOR_REPAIRS subform". Upon a click on the command button on the sobform, another form 'PARTS_FOR_REPAIRS SUB1", where details of the parts are displayed. What I want to achieve is to make the subform
display the empty fields for the user to enter data. But when I try to Add New, the subform shows nothing.

Another thing is that, I wish to autogenerate a serial no in the format "R...." where "...." is in digits. Any way this can be done?

In case, more details are needed, do tell me n i'll post wat u need.

Thanks.

regards,
Tracy

You need not open subform as a separate form you can build multiple subform in to a tabbed interface all built within single form a sample MDB (Access2000 version) is attached.

If you can send the your mdb zipped with some sample data it will be easy to set it right. State which version of MDB you are using.
