Using Data Access Pages
Ok, this is my first time working with Access. I created a table and data access page and uploaded it to my webspace. When I try to load it with IE, I get these two errors:
Data provider could not be initialized. Not a valid file name. When I tried to load it from my hard drive, it worked fine. I just cant get it to work over the internet. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Mavrax, I was wondering if you ever found a solution for this problem. I am also having the exact same problem. The files work fine on my computer, but as soon as I post them to the web server, I get the errors that you received. Let me know.
Thanks, Alan Juden |

No I never found a solution to the problem. I read something about something having to be on a secure server (https) but I do not remember if that article was about data access pages.

Here is some of the information that I have found out:
URL - Data access pages permit you to create data-bound Web pages that can be viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later. These Web pages are typically intended for Intranet use. However, with special considerations, these Web pages can be deployed successfully over the Internet. - Note Microsoft Office Web Components (OWC) must be installed on the computer that accesses the data access pages. By default, the components are installed with any Microsoft Office installation. - Client Software Requirements URL - To successfully view and use the interactive features of data access pages, you must have the following software installed on client computers: * Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later * Microsoft Office Web Components (for pages created with Access 2000) * Microsoft Office XP Web Components (for pages created with Access 2002) - The features of data access pages depend on a set of Microsoft ActiveX® controls called the Microsoft Office Web Components. Of this set of controls, the most important for data access pages is the Microsoft Office Data Source control (MSODSC), which is used to manage the page's connection to its data source. To gain full functionality when opening a data access page, a user must be running Internet Explorer 5 or later, and must also have the correct version of the Office Web Components installed on his or her computer. These components are installed by default when a user installs Microsoft Office 2000 or Microsoft Office XP. |
