AWstats Setup?
I posted a message on the AWstats forum but didn't get a reply. I'm hoping someone can give me some assistance - maybe even live via MSN? I should be online on and off for the next 12 hours (apart from eating, coffee making, toilet and dog walking).
I've just downloaded AWStats v6.4.exe and installed. I went through the setup, changed the config file (I did the: 'AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser parameter to 1' thing) and uploaded via FTP to the cgi-bin (plus icons directory into the wwwroot/icons). I tried to to view dynamically from a browser as instructed. It hung for ages (appearing to be doing something in the background) but then it eventually came up with page cannot be displayed error. The only config part I'm not sure about is the log file path? I think (?) everything else is correct. I'm very much a beginner on webserver setup so I'm fumbling my way through this. I'm not sure what to try next? Can anyone offer some troubleshooting advice? I've been building basic HTML sites for years but I know very little about IIS, perl, cgi, etc. I'm ok on FTP and basic web server administration but not configuration. Please help!!! Penny. |

I have no knowledge about awstats.
IIS log files are normally in \windows\system32\logfiles

Test Perl/Perl CGI Extensions?
Ok, I'm still not having any luck installing AWstats on my remote webserver, however I have successfully installed locally. Can anyone advise on how to test “Perl” and the “Perl CGI Extension” extensions have been set to “Allowed” on the webserver?
I have uploaded both a .pl and .cgi page and they both work. Does that mean that these extensions are ok??? I'm clutching at straws... any leads on what else might be the problem? I've checked and triple checked that my file paths are correct. I have appropriate permissions on the folder that needs to 'write' data. Arrrhhh... help!!! |

If .pl scripts work, it's probably safe to assume Perl is installed on the web server.
You might try some other small, simple cgi app and make sure it works before getting into awstats. Or check with your host support, or look for awstats help on the net. Sorry I can't help much on this one. |
