Question Can't load IIS home page from browser?

Hey all, ive just installed IIS on my PC running XP Pro sp2 and all seems to be working fine except for one thing.

When I type the following into my browser, http://localhost i get the following error message:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are not authorized to view this page

You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.
If you believe you should be able to view this directory or page, please try to contact the Web site by using any e-mail address or phone number that may be listed on the localhost home page.

You can click Search to look for information on the Internet.

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden
Internet Explorer

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any ideas as to why this is happening? I can display .asp pages on the webserver as long as i put them in the wwwroot folder, so i guess that it is working ok.

Many thanks

Try setting the permissions to "Anonymous" in IIS, under the "Security" Tab.

Another possibility is you don't have a default page in the root folder, and directory browsing is not enabled in IIS.

yep i have to go with you on that one, or he/she might need to work on the settings that he/she has for the IIS program and u can do this by going to this file and playing with the settings of the program "C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc" but please if there's some thing you don't know what it does then please come back here for more help with it.

Cheers for al the help lads! I must have deleted the default MS file in the root folder because i wrote a small asp file and named it default.asp and put it in the wwwroot directory and now when i load http://localhost from IE it displays my page!

But how can i get the original default page that comes with IIS as it has links to help topics and admin controls?

Oh and one other thing, where do i find all the settings for IIS? I can only see IIS in the Admin tools menu, Is this it?

cheers again

I don't know how to recover the original default page, and iirc, there are two of them, one if you access IIS from the same computer, and a different "under construction" page if you access from a different computer.

And as Borgis1 said "yep" the IIS management console in Administrative Tools is where it's at.
