Hello,
I have installed office 2003 recently and now when I try to view a web site I have created on my computer, I get the message «The page cannot be displayed...Cannot find server or DNS Error»...maybe the two things are connected, maybe not. Everything was working correctly but it all stopped suddenly...I don't have any firewall installed and I am running Norton anti-virus program and it has work well for over a year. I can ping 127.0.0.1 / localhost Any suggestions ? |

What version of IIS? Check in the Services MMC and verify the World Wide Web Publishing service is running (2K/XP)

Hi,
The IIS version is 5.1 I'm not to sure about the Services MMC but when i go to the console root and in the services I double click on the IIS admin, the service status is stopped. When I click on start, I get the following error message: « Could not start the IIS Admin service on Local Computer. Error 13: The data is invalid. » Maybe this will help you guys help me... Thanks |

The IIS administration console is found in the Administrative Tools from your control panel.
Maybe the IIS user account got changed somehow? Or you might have registry or metabase corruption. The best bet may be to uninstall IIS, reboot, then reinstall it. |

Connect but Cannot Browse Registry Fix
Click on Start, then Run. Type regedit. FIRST OF ALL BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY (File --> Export registry file --> Export Range = All --> Enter a filename and remember the location --> Save) Your registry file is backed up. Next: Click once on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so that it is selected. Then click on File, then on Load Hive. Go to My Computer the C Drive, then click twice on the Windows or Winnt folder, then the Repair folder, then click twice on the system or system.bak file. Name the new Key "xp". Minimize the Registry Editor. Click on Start, Run, and type in cmd. Type in the following: reg copy hklm\xp\controlset001\services\winsock2 hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\winsock2 /s /f There is a space (no carriage return or enter) between "reg copy hklm\xp\controlset001\services\winsock2" and "hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\winsock2 /s /f" You will get a message that the operation completed successfully. Exit DOS. Maximize the Registry Editor. Select the xp folder that was created. Click on File, then UnLoad Hive. You will be prompted to confirm the removal of the folder, click Yes. Exit the Registry. Connect and browse. (No need to reboot the computer.) BEATS HAVING TO REINSTALL WINDOWS!!!! ENJOY! Monti |

99% of the time this error is caused by network issues. Make sure you have good backups if you do any registry editing.

Hi, I am running winxp pro, clean install, and just installed a modem. I can ping the local loopback, I can ping my ISP's DNS server, but I cannot ping a website. And I get the server not found, page cannot be displayed from MSIE using either the name or ip address, dns error. I borrowed a laptop and can connect fine, but not with my desktop. Would my problem be related to the IIS? Could you point me to a resource? Thanks in advance Patti |

If you want to get an answer, post your own question rather than hijacking an existing question.
