Cannot reach the site by web, only by intranet
Hi all...

My name is Chrystoffer, from Brazil.

I hope someone could help me with this. I´m trying to serve a site by my home computer. I have Windows XP Pro and IIS 5.1 alredy installed. I have a DSL connection, with dynamic ip number.

I copied all the site files to /wwwroot, and it worked great when i try to load it in IE by my internal IP.

Then i try to see if i get some response by the internet. I´ve gone to other computer and tried to acces the site by my IP number (internet). Then, it giver me a message that the page cannot be found.

I´ve checked some possibilities like, port 80 being locked by windows, and others... but it really stays with teh same message, "page not found"

I´m new in IIS, and its the first time im trying to get it. Sorry, if this question sounds stupid for advanced ones <img border="0" src="/forum/emoticons/tongue.gif" height="15" width="15" alt="

Hi,

Try this:

1. Create a virtual directory in IIS. Call it MyFolder for now.
2. Map the path to the location of your files.
3. Access your pages like this: http://###.###.###.###/MyFolder/webpage.htm.

Replace '###.###.###.###' with your ip address and webpage.htm with the actual page that you want to reach. Also ping your machine to ensure that you type in the right IP address. If your IP address is not 'static', then it could have changed; you mentioned that your IP was dynamic.

In addition, there may be a firewall in your system that is keeping the outside world from seeing your pages.

Hope this helps,
Danny

Last Edited : 5/14/2003 9:49:57 PM GMT
