Force acceptance of privilege change
Not sure if this is IIS or Windows Server 2003 issue - I am installing a web application into a virtual directory (c:\inetpub\wwwroot\myApp...etc). After deployment, an administrator must change the access privileges on one of the installed folders to allow users to read and write to that folder. My question is, is it absolutely necessary to reboot in order to force those changes to take effect? It seems to me that an administrator should be able to "refresh" or something and not have to hassle with a reboot. But for me, the changes are only implemented after the reboot? Wassup

You don't need to reboot the server after file permission changes. If you mean you have to reboot your client computer perhaps something is stored in the browser cache.

Well I tried clearing the cache but that seemed to have no affect - I was able to determine that restarting the IIS Admin service had the desired result. At least it's not a reboot! It will have to suffice. Thanks for responding! Jay |

You really shouldn't need to restart the IIS service either, imagine how that would go over on a busy IIS server with hundreds of users
![]() But I don't know where to suggest you look for a true solution to this issue. Maybe 2003 is different from the earlier versions of IIS, unfortunately I don't have w2003 and IIS6. |
