How is my website working?
I have IIS 5.1, have created a web site and have dynamic DNS as I have a dynamic IP address. I have XP Pro installed.
Can I please ask a simple question. I thought that I needed to edit the properties of my internet connection to allow for HTTP access (in XP you just tick a check box called Web Server (HTTP)). In other words, I thought that this box needed to be ticked in order to allow my PC to act as a web server. The box however is NOT checked and I can access my web site from an external PC. I assume therefore that the box above does NOT need to be checked as it is working. If this is the case, what does ticking the box accomplish? This is the first time that I have tried to use my own PC to configure a web server so I apologise if my post is incorrectly worded or if this does not make any sense. Apologies if this isn't posted in the correct forum but I thought it the most appropriate. Very many thanks. Shane |

If IIS is running, you need to allow port 80 through any firewalls.
The setting you describe isn't familiar to me, sounds like it may be a setting in the XP Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). From your description it sounds like ICF is not running so port 80 traffic from the outside gets right to your IIS.

Many thanks for your time again Doug....either way, I can see the site, so port 80 traffic must be configured/permitted in my firewall setup.
Thank you..... Shane |
