HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Running MS 2000 pro...IIS had been functioning properly until the install of a wireless NIC and its entry into a wireless LAN. Are there settings that need to be reconfigured to work with the new LAN settings. Other factors: I have my laptop on travel away from my router so that there is no signal, it's not communicating with the router at all. When I run ipconfig, I get no addresses.
I'm kinda at a loss here. Thanks 4 ur help. |

In IE go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Options and uncheck the "show friendly http errors" setting.
IIS will normally listen on all IP addresses and you shouldn't have to tweak IIS at all. You probably need to have an adapter with an IP address to run IIS though. |

IIS HTTP 500 Internal server error
OK, I went and added the "show friendly http errors" check box...in fact, it was already checked. When trying to access pages on IIS, I get "There is a problem with page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed." I've since returned from travel, and I still cannot access pages. I'm back on my wireless LAN, and have an IP Address again...but still no luck with IIS.
any suggestions? Or is there any other information I can provide you to help with the diagnosis?? Thanks, Brian |

Non-default web site??
This may be of some help to you...
See Microsoft techNet article: The .asp file is located on a non-default Web site that, by default, does not use the 500-100.asp file for error handling. http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;261200 |

un-check the show friendly http errors box to get more detailed error information.

Any sucess in fixing this problem?
I seem to have picked up a similar fate. NT2KPROsp4. I am not wireless however. When I do a URL the response is (extended error message) " Server Error The following error occurred: Bad URL" Ok, local host is 127.0.0.1, I can ping it via ping localhost or ping 127.0.0.1... so its not as though its a network address that can't be resolved. I'm trying to get VC++net going. I got it to work briefly by IIS->defaultwebste->alltasks->permissionwizard->inheiritallsetttings->replacealldirectoryfilepermissions. It worked until I did the next system reset... sigh. Now its back to the same old same old bad url. |

Are you using NTFS or FAT file system?
If you are using Internet Explorer, try opening Tools - Internet Options - Connections and if there is an "automatically detect settings" in the LAN section try unchecking it, restarting and try again. You could uninstall IIS, reboot a couple times, log on as the administrator and reinstall IIS which should reset things. |

Thanks Doug.
I tried your internet suggestion and it seems to be working. I remember trying that one before and it didn't work, but this time I tried unchecking all the boxes off in that page (one at a time) and now I'm back up and running. The only way I can see this coming back on is if someone uses the config internet connection wizard and selects "pc is connected to the LAN", then "auto configure". I'm not really sure if that this configuraton is per user or system wide. It would seem like the proxy is pretty dumb to say that localhost is definitely out on the internet somewhere when its explicitly defined in the hosts system table. Oh well, now I can do some real work! Thanks again. |

127.0.0.1 is always a local loopback IP address. localhost is a DNS alias for 127.0.0.1 that is preset in the hosts file.
