IIS , ASP.net, Visual Studio .NET all sucks
ok i m so tired and fedup about this same problem i have been reading about all day
which i m having myself. I tried doing all the things suggested in all those forums with no success. i m running windows XP pro. , IIS 5.1 (uninstalled and installed back again 1000s of times), IE6.0, VS.NET 2002 enterprise architect edition installed fully in my c: drive. i m trying to open a project that has been worked on this computer priviously. the name of the project folder is project605, name of the VS.net file is project605.sln the file is located in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\project605\project605.sln wwwroot is shared folder. i uninstalled and installed the whole VS.net back again twice alredy. I cant seem to get an access to http://localhost when i m trying to open the project605.sln or even if i try to open a new project i get the following error message: the file path c:\inetpub\wwwroot\project605 does not correspond to https://localhost/project605 http error 500:server error. I did the aspnet_regiis -i i made sure the project605 is created in the application settings of that folder in IIS other than that i did not change anything in IIS What do i do now? is there any microsoft fix for this problem ? please please please someone help Shams |

i'm guessing your "http error 500:server error" hides usefull stuff... disable friendly HTTP errors by unchecking [Show Friendly HTTP Error messages] in [tools\internet options\advanced ... "browsing" category]

I have similar painful experiences. It seems the problem is related to localhost mapping. It is really frustrating when there are tons of help out there, and you could not make your hello world to run. Choose "try to open project with FrontPage Server Extensions" radio button.

Where is the https coming from? Did you try installing a certificate or something?
