IIS changing permissions automatically

Hello,

When I create a folder, say /DBS/ (or any other), in my projects and then log in via terminal services and change the permissions for that specific folder to 'write' so the database can be written to, the folder has a habit of changing the 'write' permission to be off, seemingly at random. This occurs randomly if i use TS and change the folder and/or file permission to write, if I use the IIS snap-in or if I change permissions through the Ensim Control Panel.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
bs

Are you referring to IIS ACLs, NTFS ACLs, TermServ ACLs, or something else?

Note that IIS cannot give "Write" permission to a directory when not using IUSER_ when the NTFS ACL says otherwise. That could be your problem.

Oops ... I am changing permissions for the WEB_user account. By default, when a new web on the server is created, it applies 'Read and Execute', 'List Folder Contents' and 'Read' for the WEB_user account. I am going in and changing the permission for the DB folder by adding the 'Write' permission for WEB_user to that folder. This is the only permission that is not inherited. This is also the only folder in the web that gives the 'Write' permission to the WEB_user account.

You want to make sure the folder is set to allow inherited permissions, or every time you compact & repair or copy a file you'll lose the write permissions.
