Aloha all, I'm trying to set up IIS 5.0 at home so that I can host my own web site, and do some development work at home. However, for some reason I'm having a problem setting it up. I went to Add Programs - Add Windows components and downloaded IIS.
I then went to : My Computer/Manage/Services and Applications/IIS then I went down to My Default Site, and clicked the play button. However, when I tried to open up the default site in my brower http://localhost I get a message "Waiting for localhost" at the bottom of IE and my comptuer basically hangs and eventually (after 3 minutes or so) times out. Any ideas because I haven't found much information on various sites about a problem like this?? Thanks for all the help and have a happy Thanksgiving. I haven't dealt with these issues before so I'm not sure if I need to provide any more information. Don't hesitate to ask, aloha!! |

Often this symptom is caused by antivirus script blocking software, or a firewall program. Try turning off any software like this while testing.

Not a Anti-Virus/Security problem
Thanks for the prompt reply and that is a good guess, but I've disabled my McAfee Security Center to isolate the problem, and that isn't it. (Only disabled it when disconnected to internet =).
Any other suggestions? Are there permissions I need to set, and if so where and how? |

IIS on W2000 and XP has always worked fine for me immediately after installation. I always used NTFS and was the local administrator when installing.

The problem is a subtle one. I've always been a happy user of McAfee Security Center, however their Privacy Service has generally been more of a hassel then useful.
Solution: Uninstall Privacy Service. It doesn't work to simply disable it, you must completely uninstall it. NOTE TO MCAFEE USERS: McAfee doesn't currently have a better solution then uninstall privacy service. Kind of whack in my opinion, but oh well. |
