I am new to IIS and am trying to set up a website. Everytime I install IIS and try to activate my webpage it tells me to enter an user name and password. Does anyone know how or where I can go to find out the correct way to set up permissions with IIS for a anonymous website? Any help would be great.
Just frustrated. Tansands |

What version of windows and IIS?
With IIS4 and IIS5.x there is usually nothing special you need to do to allow anonymous web surfing. If you changed the IIS user account to something other than the default IUSR_computername then you might need to reset some settings in IIS. You need to allow anonymous authentication in IIS, and the IIS user account needs permissions to the web directory, which is normally \inetpub\wwwroot\ for the default root website.

With IIS5.0 and a normal installation of IIS while the administrator user, on a NTFS filesystem, you can access the default web page right after installation, from a browser on the server.
