IIS web server behind a router
I am running IIS on an XP pro machine and I just bought a linksys router. I am using ipupdater to connect my IP and a regular web address because my server ip is not static.
My problem is that my server is no longer visible/accessible outside my router. How do I set it up to work? If you need any more info, please let me know. thanks! |

You need to set up port forwarding in the router to forward port 80 trafic to the internal IP of the web server.

Hi. also need help.
I have three computers at home. I have them named as PCSERVER, STATION1 and STATION2 and are connected via a hub all running Windows XP Prof. I have IIS 5.1 installed on the PCSERVER and hosting a test ASP site using this computer. I can access the ASP site just by typing http://PCSERVER on either one of my other two computers Internet browser. Now the problem. I bought a DLink router to share my net connection. After installing the router, I am not able to access the IIS site on my PCSERVER anymore. If I will type http://PCSERVER on one of my two workstations, it says the Page Cannot be displayed. Then I remove the router. It worked again. So I decided to setup port forwarding on the router after finding out that my PCSERVER uses 192.168.0.1 as well as my router. So I changed my PCSERVER static IP to 192.168.0.100 and my other two workstations to 192.168.0.101, 192.168.0.102 respectively. On Virtual Server setup on the router, I point the http service to my IIS server (192.168.0.100) to port 80 and uses TCP. But after doing it, i am still unable to access the PCSERVER via http://PCSERVER on my IE browser on either of my two workstations. Any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance. |

Try using the external IP address. PCSERVER is the netbios name of the server and that name won't get through the router. From outside use a url (if you have DNS on your connection) or use the external IP
