Hi Everyone - and Happy New Year!
I'm running Windows XP Pro with IIS 5.1. However, I've encountered this problem on my old Windows 2K Laptop as well. In any case... http://localhost/ runs BEAUTIFULLY - only when I disable my network/internet connection. As soon as I enable my network connection, http://localhost/ gives me a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. I can't use http://localhost and be connected to the internet at the same time. Really frustrating! Help! |

This sounds like some kind of routing issue that is sending packets to different places depending on your connection.
I don't know what to suggest, other than checking your hosts file, and try ping localhost when you're connected and see where your packets are going.,

I was able to fix the problem by changing my TCP/IP settings to static IP info as opposed to 'Detect settings automatically'. Everything seems to run smoothly now. Very strange... I'm no computer geneous so I don't know if that solution makes sense or not - but it worked.
