lose internet connection on IIS 5.1 Install

Is that common?.. I have installed IIS on this machine twice, first time was right before a reinstall so it was just a test.

This time I just reinstalled xp pro, updated everything.. downloaded antivirus and whatnot then installed IIS, after about 5 minutes I could no longer access the internet on that pc. is there something Im missing here, I can still navigate the network fine through the router and the rest of the lan can access the internet fine.

im a little confused as ive never set up xp pro to use iis and actually messed around with it anyway,

localhost works from my pc.. but i cant get to the net|

any thoughts on why this is?

~also~I tried this with a new card and cable and got same result... my pc has a static ip to the router but the router has dynamic to the net

Check the DNS settings... can you still ping external IP addresses from that computer or is it just a problem resolving domains?

I havent tried to ping an external address... but i can connect to the router fine and im able to view the site from any other pc on the network...

i will try an external ping later when i get back to the house..

my dns settings are blank though... how should i set this up if im using a standard
192.168.1.100 gateway?

This sounds to me like some kind of firewall problem.

Your DNS settings are determined by your ISP. I use a linksys router, and it does DNS forwarding so all I need to put in for the DNS address in my network settings is the gateway IP, not the actual DNS server IP.
