Question Making IIS work- Need some help

Hello,

I recently upgrade to Windows XP SP2 and installed VS.NET 2003 and IIS 5.1 Everythign seemed to install properly.
However, when I type in Localhost into IE I get the message of PAge cannot be displayed. I do have McAfee personal firew all running and tried accessing localhost with all firewall apps turned off.

I reviewed some similar threads on this forum but no luck. Security is set to Anonymous and directory browsing is on. There is also a default.asp page in \inetpub\wwwroot.

Any help or direction to help is greatly appreciated.

so you typed http://localhost into a browser and got Page Not Found?

dumb question, but did you make sure that your IIS is running?

Start --> Control Panel --> Admin Tools --> IIS
Expand the tree under your computer name
Click on Web Sites
Make sure the Default Web Site is Running

What is the full error message. If you're using IE, try unchecking the "show friendly http errors" setting in IE to get more details.

Website works with localhost but not with IP or hostname

I'm running IIS 5.1 under winxp and I'm having the following problem. When i access my website with http://localhost it works fine, but when I try http://<hostname> or http://<ip address> I get 'Cannot find server or DNS Error'. I've tried disabling the firewall and it makes no difference. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Talking

Thanks all for feedback. It ended up that McAfee Privacy 7 is not compatible with IIS and was the culprit. As soon as I uninstalled it IIS ran like a charm and the localhost page popped up !! Apprently McAfee claims privacy service version 8 will work with IIS.....
