NEwbie Here :)

Hey,
sorry if this has been covered a few times around, but i tried to search but failed, but what i want to do is, i have ONLY ONE static IP address from my DSL company, and i want to try to set that up as a proper server (for like small website hosting) i was wondering if anyone could help my in setting up the DNS etc, for it, or just point me in a direction towards a tutrioal or even keywords to search for on google, since i tried, but kept coming up empty has i have no idea what to search for.

also before you ask, i know if aim this computer stupid i should just get a host instead of setting one up, but its for a non-profit youth site, and since money is a problem, i want to try and set it up on my home computer to help out instead.

Any help is welcome.

Thank you in advnace.

Buy a domain from GoDaddy.com and set the "A" Host Record to point to your static IP address.

Just ignore the "nameserver" fields.

Problem solved.

But you'd better invest in a good hardware firewall solution, otherwise you /will/ be subject to multiple attacks.

Consumer software firewalls, like Norton Internet Security / Personal Wirewall aren't adequate for a server y'see.

Oh, and what webserver software are you using? IIS5.1 for Windows XP has a connection limit of 10 concurrent users.

You can get good professional hosting for under $10.00 a month, and this seems pretty cheap compared to the $100.00 headache you'll have the first time your home server is hacked or crashes

Just my $000000000000.02

Thanks Phoenix and doug G, i guess doug is right, i guess just going professional would be better cause of hacking issues etc, plus better speeds with a professional, again thank you both very much for your help.
