Newbie question

I have my home computer working as my server, and it seems to be working fine. My site is a relatively low traffic site, but any time I have more than about 5 simultaneous connections, the browsers start getting "Server Too Busy" Errors, or people start getting pages with pictures that aren't showing up (that little img box with the red "x" in it).

Some miscellaneous info about my system, incase it might help:
Software-
OS: Windows XP
Server: IIS 5
Database: Access
Hardware-
Connection: 2Mbps cable - upload I think is 500kbps
Processor: P4 2.4 GHz
RAM: 512 DDR (266MHz) RAM

.Net installed, but still using old ASP technology.

I know my computer is not actually low on resources, so I think there must be a setting somewhere that is causing this, or possibly my setup is not configured properly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

And one more question. What's the best way to see who is see who is accessing my site at any given time. I know there are log files that track this info, but I'm looking for something simpler that I can view while people are on my site. Is there any such tool?

Thanks,
Ryan

XP has a limit of 5 concurrent connections. Win2k pro has a limit of 10 concurrent. To get anything more you need to run Win2k server. This is something that Microsoft has done to prevent people from using what should be "desktop" OS's as servers.

dotNetBB Forum Developer
Building A Better Community, One Post At A Time
www.dotnetbb.com

you're kidding? That is a load of crap. I paid for XP pro for the purpose of using it as a server. I can't believe that. What is the point of having a "server" (XP) version of an operating system if the server is for all practical purposes non-functional?

What a load of BS.

Has anyone else heard of this? I'm assuming that Andrew knows a lot more than I do about servers, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping maybe he's wrong. No offense Andrew. Any body else have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ryan

There isn't an XP server available. The next server release will be Windows 2003 server, or you can use Windows 2000 server now. The version of XP you have right now is a "desktop" version, and the IIS server you are running on it is designed for "developmental purposes only".

dotNetBB Forum Developer
Building A Better Community, One Post At A Time
www.dotnetbb.com
