no need to authenticate
Hi, im working in a sharepoint site (not a portal) and i was asked to make a site open to web visitors, where they wont authenticate... i read around that sharepoint relays on iis security, but in the end it always asks for a username and password; i even mess around creating a virtual server (pointing to an empty directory and calling him from sharepoint) but i cant get the sire address.....
in IIS 5.1 in my personal machine at home i managed to get rid of permissions, but IIS 6 is totally unknown to me... anybody knows how to skip authentication? many thanks in advance... |

I don't know sharepoint and IIS6, but in other versions of IIS you can visit the management console and change the authentication model for IIS from NT to anonymous authentication.

Yes you can; in fact, i did that on my home pc so i can host my own pages; i have a winxp pro with iis 5.1 and it goes by simply remove the permissions for the directory (something like that; i dont quite remember it) but its not hard or messy to do. the thing is, i want to do exactly the same, in IIS 6.
