opentextfile freeze
I have had my IIS server running for about a year now with no issues, it is iis 5.1 running on a windows xp machine..
lately i have been encountering several problems, all of my applications where i read a text file no longer work, they simply lock up IIS and i have to go onto the machine and restart IIS.. and i have another problem with it saying there are too many users logged on, when my log files say that i am the only one there. any help is appreciated, i have also been trying to find a way to upgrade to IIS 6.0.. is this possible? |

You have to go to W2003 to get IIS6. As far as hanging, look for some script blocking program or firewall causing the problem. And if you're using the Filesystem Object recheck the file permissions.

too bad about the iis6.0, i have a copy of w2003 server but no key for it. might be too much for my little 533mhz celeron. |

So what about firewalls or script blocking programs?

With Norton AV, anyway, disabling the AV scanner doesn't turn off script blocking, which runs as a separate service. You can set that service to MANUAL startup in the XP Services mmc and reboot, or use the options in NAV to turn off script blocking (and reboot).
Apache won't run asp. IIS6 is configured differently, you have to explicitly enable ASP in IIS6. |

i use MCafee.. i gave up on this cause it keeps locking up my server and i have to restart, i had a friend run the SAME EXACT script on his machine and it works fine.. i reinstalled iis even.. I have given up on this, i just wanted to go low tech for a change and not use a database.. it bugs me, but i can get by it.. thanks for your help.

BTW, did you look in the event logs on the server for any clues? What you're trying to do should work, but I'm outta ideas on what's causing your problem.

I Got it to work! i ran the permissions wizard.. but now all the files are read only and i cannot edit anything across my network.. this computer has nothing but power and a network cable hoooked up to it.. and it now it wont let me write any information or transfer any files.
what i did was share the inetpub/wwwroot folder so i could just throw files on there like a folder. but now no ammount of unchecking the read only check box will make it go away, and no ammount of editing the directory permissions to write enabled is working. ![]() |

Use windows explorer and navigate to one of your web folders, and in the folder properties use the Security tab. Ensure "simple file sharing" is not enabled. Can you manipulate permissions from here?
