Server execution failed

Here's what i've done.

1. I have Windows XP Professional SP1.
2. I installed IIS from Add/remove programs.
3. It created the C:\inetpub directory and various subdirectories.
4. I can run an execute ASP files fine through http://localhost/whatever. I can communicate with databases fine.
5. When i reset my computer access to http://localhost dies. ASP files cease to work.
6. When i go to Internet Information Services from Administrative Tools there is no local computer anymore, where as before the reset there was.
7. When i go to connect from this screen it gives a "Server execution failed error"

I have an extremely annoying solution and that is to completely delete IIS, then reinstall it. After reinstalling i can run ASP files with no problem , but after resetting the same problem returns.

I tried typing this from the cmd
iireset /restart

and it says this

Attempting stop..
Internet services successfully stopped
Attempting start
Restart attempt failed
IIS Admin Service is disabled

Anyone have any clue what the problem is?

Another thing.

When i go to Services from the Administrative tools page , right click World Wide Web Publishing it is stopped.

When i click start, it gives this error

Could not start the World Wide Web Publishing Service on Local computer

Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start

The service message indicates there is some service IIS is dependent on that isn't running.

Make sure you are a local administrator user when you install IIS.

I'm positive i was logged in as the administrator when i installed IIS. The fact that it actually works when i install it, but after resetting it stuffs up is weird.

For some reason the reset deletes the account or something.

So assuming i was logged in as admin, can you think of anything else that could be causing the problem?

For testing, turn off any firewall or antivirus or script blocking on the web server computer. Disable the above so they don't restart on bootup. Then reboot and see if your IIS works better.

re

I need to revive this post because I am now having the same problem. I am running an IIS server on Windows XP platform and after a power outage the other day the server is doing the same thing. When I bring up IIS admin to look at the site properties I am getting the error message that says "server execution error".

Thorngrin - Did you ever figure this out? I know that I can uninstall and reinstall IIS but I would rather fix the problem without that if possible. Thanks.
