setup internet printing xp->2000server
I have been playing around with 2000 server here at work
and set it up as a web print server using 2000 internet services. I had to change the default port to 8010 as my isp blocks port 80 here. I was trying to hook to the printer at home on my xp machine. installing the printer and manually typing in the path URL will bring up a password box and I click on "use this username and passward" and type in my username and password that I had setup on the 2000 server. It comes back with "you do not have rights...." I went as far as adding the username and password to xp. didn't help. I have a 2000 pro machine at home and that worked just fine setting up the printer manually and using that address to the printer. any ideas? I am looking for a source for info on this through the web without any luck. I have a 2000 server book by microsoft press (very thick) but they don't seem to touch on it much. thank you sam |

If you have the administrator password for the server try using it. If you can log in and use the remote printer then your normal user name doesn't have permissions somewhere, either to the registry section that controls printing, or to whatever folder IIS uses as a print spooler.

the administrator account dosn't work either on xp. All of the usernames and passwords worked just fine on my 2000 pro worksations connecting over the internet. I have tried it on two differant xp workstations from two differant isp's.
seems to be an xp authentication problem - Or something that I am doing wrong- (more likely) I do this URL and get this URL thank you sam |

Are you using XP Home by any chance? XP Home doesn't support domain logins and maybe that restriction is also affecting login to an internet printer.
This is just guessing btw. You could review the permissions you have on the actual printer share on the server too. |

I was reading the above messages in hopes of trying to resolve the issue about internet printing.
I am having the same issue as "SamCo" in that when you try to access the printer via IP Address, it gives the error: "You do not have access to the printer" I tried using the IPAddress\<username> as mentioned in one of the replies and that did not work for me. I am running Windows 2003 Server I have installed IIS, and I have my computer setup as a Print Server. I have went into IIS Printer folder and even tried enabling Anonymous Access, but that did not work either. I am using the Administrator Account to try to log in to the printer and I have double checked to make sure Administrator has rights and permissions to the printer. Any ideas on why i get this error? What is wierd is that I can access the printer via IP Address in the web browser "IPAddress ort/printers"and doing this i can see the printer. When I click the "Connect" link, it ask if i wish to install printer. I click yes, and then it says Access Denied. If anyone has any suggestions or has encountered this issue and has fixed it please help me out. Thanks -John |

I had this same problem with Windows 2003 Server, as far as I remember, I fixed it by editing an option in the Group Policy for the domain. Go to Administrative Tools -> Active Directory Users and Computers. Right-click on your domain and click Properties. Go to the Group Policy tab. Go in to Edit the 'Default Domain Policy', or whichever policy your domain uses. Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Printers, and enable Web-Based Printing. I believe this is the only one you NEED enabled, but I'm not positive, I also have a few others turned on.
Hope this helps! |
