URL connection error

HI,
I'm newbie to IIS. i've installed iis successfully. when i try to
run a page in browser it gives the following error.
ERROR
THE REQUESTED URL COULDNOT BE RETRIEVED..
CONNECTION FAILED

This error comes even if i try to run http:\\localhost. What could
be the problem..I checked IIS is running. I would be grateful if anyone
could give me solution for this.

First, you should use http://localhost

Second, from your post "i've installed iis successfully" doesn't sound correct

Try disabling any script blocking or firewall software. Look in the windows event log. Post exact complete error messages. Put a simple test html page in your root folder (normally c:\intepub\wwwroot\)

Is the default Website started? If not please start it from the IIS Manager and that should probably fix the problem. If yuo still have the problem check to see that you have correct IP selected in the General tab. To start with select the any available IP and make sure that you selected the correct port "80". If you are using any other ports the URL Would be http://localhost:83 (Say you are using port 83)
