User can't see IIS website

Can anyone tell me why a user wouldn't be able to view pages on our Intranet development server. Permissions are set giving the 'Everyone' group access and everyone, but the person I've built it for can see the website.

I have tested other sites on this server and he is unable to view any of them.

It is a Win2k server with IIS 5.0.

Hi Memnoch, thanks for your reply.

Yes. He is able to access files via Windows Explorer, but he can't view them in the web browser.

IIS log files show him logging on as an anonymous user when the site requires authentication. What we can't figure out is why he is different to other users.

He has tried accessing the website on 3 computers which rules out a problem with his profile.

We've tried different sites on the same server and he can't access any, and we've checked his Internet settings.

He is a member of a number of different groups so our next step is to remove him from them to see if they are conflicting with his permissions, but I think this is unlikely.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Solution

We finally found the solution, so I hope this helps someone else!

The user was a member of a lot of NT groups. We removed all the groups he didn't need and the problem is resolved. Some of them were legacy groups and I'm assuming when the user is authenticated it doesn't like them as there is nothing on the server set to deny access to these groups.

The bad news is the IT manager can't access websites on this server! I guess on a good note this should allow us to narrow it down to a particular group.
