Web pages "stuck" in cache
Hi -
Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this question, but it seemed the best place to me. I've searched the forums every way I could think of, but no related topics came up. I've got a "phantom" web page showing up on my site. Not like a rogue page or anything, but a legitimate page that should no longer show up. I had made updates to the page and ftp'd the updated page to the webserver, but no amount of refreshing, clearing the cache or anything else made the updated page appear. The old page still appeared. So I cleared the cache on the webserver, but still no luck. I got so frustrated that I actually removed the source file from the webserver, cleared all caches again, rebooted the client PC (can't reboot the webserver until the weekend) and the page STILL shows up!!! I've looked in the temporary internet files on both machines, I've looked in temp directories, I've done searches for the file on both machines. The file does not exist in any way that is visible to the system, yet it still appears on the website. I am baffled. Any advice is much appreciated! |

Web pages "stuck" in cache
Is this the home page of your website? If so. One possiblity could be the page is present in a different file format. Say for example the page you modified is default.htm and the old file has a copy with name Index.htm and in the Document search order if you have Index.htm in the first place, then the old file is going to be shown. To check this, go to the documents tab in your website properties and make a note of all the Defailt Content Page in the same order as it appears. then check to see if there is any file in the web folder that is other than your new page but listed in the Default Content page tab. If there is anything that you see, Rename that and try.
To my knowledge the webserver doesn't hold any cache of the pages. If nothing works then try this command from the command prompt. ipconfig /flushdns ------------ Bhaski ------------ Register Domain Names for Less @ NetTicks.com |

Perhaps your isp has some caching proxy server that's not refreshing properly.
