Hi,
Today I found one of our sites in a stopped state, not default. All other sites were up just fine. clicked start & it came up fine. Why, would it enter stopped state? Is there a log, or tool, I can check that might give me an idea how or who might of stopped it? OS win Ser 2003 thank you, Pete. |

It will most likely be logged in the Windows Event Viewer. Browse to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer.

Yeah, That's what I was hoping...
Unfortunately I see nothing. As a test I have manually Sopped a site, then Sarted to see if I get any new entries in the Event logs. After refreshing them I see nothing new. |

Thanks for this.
I've reconfigured the IIS logs to report hourly, rather than daily, & to track everything so I can look for any abnormalities. I just ran another test of stopping & starting a site after I'd made these changes I'll have to wait to see what the next hourly report says to see if it shows this. |

IIS sites can stop if there is a confilict with the IP and port number in use, however normally host headers resolve this problem. But on occassion, for some reason I've not worked out, I've had sites setup, then complain that the port number (80) is in use - which it was by all the other sites.
May have something to do with setting up a site before the DNS stuff has filtered through is about the only thing I can think of. |
