WWW Publishing Service cannot be started
wassup guys,
for no apparent reason, i cannot serve websites to my users anymore. the World Wide Web Publishing service cannot be started. all my websites are now unavailable. but the ftp service still functions without any problems. anyone with any idea what is wrong? i run sharepoint services, and when i check through the event logs, it says that i cannot connect to my content database. somehow i think it's related to my WWW service not running. thanks for your help, people. kishen |

I don't know sharepoint, sorry.
Without sharepoint in the picture, if you changed any firewall software on the web server sometimes that can interfere with the WWW service starting up. |

Doug,
No firewall or anything like that on my server man. but you might have given me an idea to try something else. can you tell me more about your firewall/proxy theory? You see, sharepoint connects to a desktop engine of the SQL databse to hold website data. the SQL engine is running, but the pages cannot access the DB because the WWW publishing cannot start. i have been trying all sorts of methods, but nothing seems to work. thanks for the reply though. you take care, bro. kishen |

On an XP Pro box with zonealarm, a recent update to zonealarm broke IIS. The fix was to set the IIS service to manual, reboot, and then restart the WWW service after the computer was up and going so zonealarm could intercept and add IIS as an open service.
I don't know about your specific error though. Try throwing the exact text of your event log error at google, enclosed in quotes. |
