XPpro's IIS dead after turning the computer off

I installed IIS from XPpro for my asp pages and it worked fine. However,IIS seemed to be dead after I turned the computer off. Therefore, everyday when I turn the computor on, I have to uninstall and reinstall IIS just to be able to use IIS. I still have the short cut for IIS but nothing happens when doouble click though IIS admin startup type was set as automatic.

any suggestion on this please cause I am sick of IIS reinstallation.
Thanks a lot

Is the WWW service running when you restart? If not, very likely you have a firewall interfering with the startup of IIS. Try setting IIS startup to manual, reboot, let your box settle down, then start IIS & see if you get some firewall popup to allow IIS to act as a server.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
1) set up IIS to manual already, restart and double click at IIS icon or check with http://localhost. nothing happened.
2) no firewall popup as you mentioned. However, I disabled my Norton internet security while I was testing IIS.
3) not sure about checking WWW service running. could you please tell me how? I'm a newbie here. When i checked window task manager I did not see www service task there.
4) sometimes I have a Save As window with file type Microsoft managment console file(*.msc) come up. I already saved a file in my folder( type microsoft common console document) i thought it is kind of startup snap in something but do not know how to use it.
I can see IIS under Console Root but when when check its thread for local computer, the computer always hang cause it shows program running so long that I have to end the program by turning the computer off( cannot close Console Root window!)

Again thanks very much for any help!

Not quite understand 'mmc' you mentioned but I checked at World Wide Web Publishing under Services the status was 'starting'.
when I tried to turn the computer off after trying to activate IIS by various means. I normally get two screens one was the Save As window as i previously told you. The other one was end program-mmc.exe, saying the program was not responding.

also I tried to open mmc.exe from Run I got a console root where there are no items to show in that view.

Thanks again for you reply.

First you mentioned Microsoft Management Console commonly abbreviated as MMC.

Normally if your IIS is hung on 'starting' the problem is caused by your firewall.

Were you logged in as the local Administrator user when you installed IIS? If you weren't, uninstall, reboot, log in as an Administrator and reinstall.

do you have service pack 2 installed as well? I had a similar problem with XP Pro and my whole system crashed and
had to be re-formatted. Make sure firewalls are current and sp 2 is installed.

1) My user account is always set as a computer administrator so i installed IIS as an admin.

Reply to "shekman":
No , i do not have service pack 2 installed, mine was service pack 1, i did not install it unless it was installed during XPpro installation
