ASP application from Access to SQL
Hello:
We recently purchased an ASP application from Development Solutions -www.devsolutions.us online. When we purchased it...we were supposed to be receiving an SQL version. We received an Access version. We were unsuccessful in getting this company to fix the problem....it seems that they mysteriously stopped answering their telephone. Anyway, now we are stuck with an application that we can't use, unless we can upsize it. I am wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult upsizing this application would be? Is it worthwhile...or should we just go and purchase another application? |

It would be a matter of doing the following things.
1) Creating all of the database objects in SQL Server. 2) Importing the data from Access to SQL Server. 3) Rewriting any queries, etc... to work with SQL Server syntax 4) changing anything Access specific (connectionstring, etc..) within the application itself. It shouldn't be that difficult to upgrade the application to SQL Server. |

Hi... Thanks for the info...this particular application contains about 270 ASP pages (give or take a page). Do you have any idea of what upgrading something like that would cost? |

Unless you have someone in-house who know's how to do it, you're looking at hiring someone then. If it's the latter, then you'd might as well just buy another application. By the way, what type of application did you buy? 270 page is a lot! ![]()

ProEdge is right, it depends on if you have someone in-house who can do it or if you have to hire someone to do it for you. |

It's a real estate rental application and yes, we would have to hire someone.

Hiring someone might also be good because you get a degree of control of the application and database. Have you considered jumping to .NET?

You can send me a Private Message if you are serious about having this conversion done.
I would be happy to consult with you on getting it working, so you wouldn't have to purchase another application. But then again, the price of hiring someone to do the conversion might be more expensive than just buying another application. Your first step should be to exhaust all avenues of getting the correct product from the company you bought it from. Even if that means contacting the Better Business Bureau, Attorney General and/or and Attorney. Once you go this route you would be suprised how quickly most companies will try to fulfill your request. Last edited by Memnoch : March 17th, 2005 at 09:45 AM. |

Yeah I agree with Memnoch. This business you bought the application from should be contacted because they obviously sold you the wrong application. It's not right that they get away with something like that.
