Confused...?
Hello all,
I've been using access for most of my applications but have decided to pickup a copy of MS SQL7 w 10 Cal to learn. I purchased an open box of the software and it contained one cd, license agreements, and manual. But when I attempt to install I get an error stating 'incorrect machine type'. The cd states Alpha Processor. Am I missing a cd for x86? Server Specs: 1.9 GHz Pent 4 4 - 100 Gig IDE drives 1 gig ram Windows 2000 Server ADV Thanks, Any help is really appreciated. |

You would have been better off just getting Sql Server 2000 instead.

Eventually I will. I picked it up on EBay cheap and this is more of a learning than real world use. But besides that, can someone help me with my question. Thanks again |

I have a copy of SQL Server 7.0 and it only came with one cd.
Not sure why you are getting that error though. It may be incompatible with that hardware. |

Perhaps there is a different SQL7 for Alpha processors. If I can find my SQL 7 CD I'll look & see if Alpha and x86 are both on it.

Thanks for the replies. The CD contains an English and Japanese folder within the English there is only Setup>Alpha no x86 which lead me to believe there is a CD missing. The box states Alpha or Pentium (166 or Higher).
Thanks a ton for checking that out for me Doug. |

On my retail 10-client SQL Server 7.0 CD circa 1999 or so, there are both alpha and i386 folders (and 4 or 5 other folders too, for MSMQ, OLAP, etc.)
There are no English and Japanese folders on my CD, alpha and x86 both are off the root of the CD. |

HUGE thanks again for your help Doug. I'll have to contact the seller and find out what's up.
