Odd problem - I'm running SQL 7 (client install) and cannot
connect to the server, but only from my machine. From any other machine on the LAN that I've tried (after installing the client and adding my domain acct to the machine) I get in fine. I cannot connect using ISQL either. Any ideas? I'm really hoping to avoid a machine reformat. |

So you install on yours and doesn't work, but installing on others it works just fine?
Check and make sure your computer is accessing the network. Try pinging the database server. |

I'm on, and can ping away with no problems.

You could try using the Client Network Utility and create an alias to your server, and then try registering using the alias.
If you haven't, try connecting using the ip address rather than the server name.

Creating an alias via Client Network Utility has been suggested once before, but my SysAdmin balked as he wanted to know why it was being suggested... care to explain?
(thanks) |

Also... tried connecting via IP, no go.

I am not sure why creating an alias works sometimes, but it does. Perhaps it has to do with proxy/firewalls in between you and your server. If adding an alias doesn't work then your sysadmin can remove it immediately. |
