ASP.Net/General - ASP developer given .NET Site to run - where do I start?

Hi Guys

Not sure if this is the best place to post this or not, but I have this MAJOR problem.

I developed a classic ASP website some time ago, and have been maintaining/updating/enhancing it for a very long time.
(I like to think that when it comes to classic ASP, I'm pretty good at what I do now. But with this .NET stuff I'm a no-hoper )

Since then another developer has written a new site to replace the one I wrote, but it is a .NET site, written in C# I think from what I've been able to figure out.

Now this other developer is no longer on the scene, and his site has been handed to me to run, with a few months to get it up and running completely, including making quite a few changes.

I've been looking at the code, I even went so far as to find a way to view the code inside the DLL files (I wasn't given the source code for these, and I'm not sure I would have any chance of getting them either)

Looking through the .NET code, and the DLL code that I have seen so far, I have no idea where to start, or even how this site does some of the things it does.
eg, there ate a lot of .aspx files, but the links in the menus on the site point to .html files, yet somehow it seems to find the correct .aspx file to display - how does it do that.

Anyone have any good sites/tutorials that I can look at to get me up to spped on this stuff in a very short time frame? I know it is asking a lot, but i have been given the choice of figuring this out, or being left jobless.

I'm pretty sure I could completely re-write this new site in classic ASP, but I have been told that is not an option.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

To be completely honest, if you need a breeze-through, easy to read book that really does teach you all the basics - go look at asp.net 3.5 for dummies, or asp.net 2.0 if you can get your hands on that (2.0 will teach you the basics without all the add ins (ajax) of 3.5). People make fun of me since I have like 10 dummies books but I tell you what anytime I have to pick up a new technology, that's the first place I start. It puts things in ways you can understand so if you ever do advance to a normal beginners book or a more technical book, you already have a grasp of all the terminology and the basics.

So if your job is on the line, I'd highly recommend spending the 20 bucks and spend a couple days reading it.

Book
