ASP.NET dilema - Perl, VB, C#, Java
Originally posted by : Phil (rooroo3@hotmail.com)
Hi everyone

Well I just don't know which way to go with this can anyone help?

I would like to move over to using .NET and am unsure of which way to go.
I starting developing server-side scripts with Perl which I liked alot and used for about a year. At the same time I started to learn a little JavaScript. Then my new boss wanted me to use ASP so I have started to learn ASP.

I have read quite alot about the .NET strategy and it seems to be the way forward and not just a marketing ploy by microsoft. So instead of spending time learning the fine details of asp (vbscrip) I feel I should leap to .NET now.

After programming for over 18 months and grasping some of the fundamentals of programming I am ready and looking for a language to use and stick with - that is good for web development and for non web (mainly web though).

I like Perl for its regular expressions
I like asp (vb script) in the way it is closely linked to to the server and the session cookies and general ease of use.

And guess what! I may be doing an open university course which part of it is designing OOP programs in Java - ARGHHH!!!

Yes I do like the idea of been able to use different languages but I do only have so much time and would like to master (ish) at least one language.

What should i do? anyone!
C# and VB are practically the same performance just syntax and what your language your most comfortable in. if a particular language is more your likeing for a specific task write it in that. this is pretty much a personal choice only can answer.
------------
Phil at 4/3/2002 6:39:42 AM

Hi everyone

Well I just don't know which way to go with this can anyone help?

I would like to move over to using .NET and am unsure of which way to go.
I starting developing server-side scripts with Perl which I liked alot and used for about a year.
