Installation Problem with Visual C++ .net

I am trying to install Visual C++ .net on an HP Pavilion notebook running Windows XP Home SP2 with a 3ghz P4 and 512MB RAM.

When I insert the setup disk it tells me that some of the prerequisites are wrong and that I should update them. Clicking to update tells me to reboot teh machine and install the prerequisites.

I reboot the machine and insert the prerequisites disk and I get a message telling me to insert the setup disk (CD1) so that only the correct preqrequisites are installed.

If I go back to the setup disk, I get the original message again. Round and round in circles.

Does anybody have a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Exclamation Did you figure this out?

I'm having the same problem w/ the same kind of machine (right down to the amount of memory).

I'm unable to install the prerequisites as it tells me a previous application has run setup and requires a reboot. After rebooting I simply get the same message and am unable to install.

I've checked the RunOnce and RunOnceEx registry keys; they are empty. Anyone else know why this would fail?
