DHTML/JavaScript Software Engineer, Los Angeles, CA
We have a multimedia software client in downtown Los Angeles. This is a small friendly environment with very intelligent and professional developers.
JavaScript programmer needed to develop robust browser hosted multimedia application. You should have strong JavaScript skills, intimate knowledge of the DOM and experience developing XML driven applications using JavaScript. This position requires excellent HTML, DHTML and CSS skills. Knowledge of Object Oriented programming is a plus. About 3 or 4 years experience developing web projects is desirable. BS in CS or related field. You will be responsible for designing and implementing innovative technical solutions for a dynamic multimedia application which will run on the Win XP Media Center Edition platform. You will work with designers, the project manager and other software engineers to implement the user facing portion of this application using JavaScript, DHTML and an XML interface to backend systems. This will be a challenging and interesting project which will result in your work being visible to a large audience on some of the newest media platforms and devices. Contract length is 8+ months and contract to hire is very desirable. Contract starting now. Principles only please. Only on-site work. Must have U.S. work permit. I am interested to know why you need a Bachellors in CompSci to write JavaScript.
I mean... I was 15 without any formal qualifications whatsoever and already writing fully working webapplications. |

Probably because for most people (not all) having the degree gives the person greater ability to think and not just do.
I know many people how have great technical skills and can do exactly what I want them to do, but they can't think and thus need to have all the analyst side to things spelled out for them. Many organizations recoginize this and require the personnel to be able to think as well as do, for certain positions and tasks. But the bottum line is, they are doing the hiring and they are going to hire the person that they feel best fits their need. And if they feel that they want people to have a 4 year degree, then that is want they are going to hire. S-
