colours+designs variables - online store

hey i'm trying to solve a problem and i decided to ask how you;d go about it as i'm not confident with my skills. i have an online shop that sells clothing. we have different designs in different colours. i want each colour to be clickable and pop up in a new window showing that colour. in summary this is what i want:

• each item has a variable
• each item colour has a variable
• the colours shown are clickable and contain both variables ie: style+colour
• when clicked a new window opens and finds this variable style+colour and shows the image style+colour.gif

hopefulyl you understand what i'm getting at. so the site automatically chooses the right image for each design/colour.
