Excel formula help needed
I'm suffering a mental block and need someone to flip the switch to the lightbulb between my ears.
I have a formula: =IF(February!N28=1,"",IF(February!N28="","-",February!N28)) that, if I change the cell reference, it returns the formula rather than the content of the new reference. Why? Thanks! |

I can't see anything wrong in the formula.
Do you get the correct result for the first formula you enter? Are you filling the formula down or editing in the cell? Can you post the workbook? Alan. |

[QUOTE=a9192shark]I can't see anything wrong in the formula.
I know -- that's what's *so* frustrating (but what also tells me that it is something stupid that I'm doing wrong!). Do you get the correct result for the first formula you enter? Only from the ones that were there -- before I changed the cell reference. Are you filling the formula down or editing in the cell? I've tried every which way to Sunday in altering it -- even starting from scratch. Can you post the workbook? Sure -- here it is. Look at the FEB Sheets sheet... you'll see where I've been playing with it. (I had to remove a ton of stuff to reach the 100kb limit) Mike |

I did not get have the same problem as you are expressing. When I changed Cel references I got the value the forumla should return to show up.
I did have a problem with to exisitng cells that were displaying the forumat instead of the value, I remove the = sign then went back to it a added it and it now displays the values and not the formula S- |

I tried the = removal/addition trick -- and it didn't work for me. My thought is that something in the <options> area is turned on/off which is causing the problem. Otherwise I'm ready to begin the exorcism...
Thanks for your help! |

One workaround that I've found is going into the Microsoft Script Editor and making the change to the reference there. I can then copy and paste that cell (with the reference changing appropriately).
... but there has to be an easier way... |

The problem is......
(and I should have thought of this) ...The cell is formatted as text. Select the cell Format Cells (from menu or Cntrl+1) Select general or another format. Clcik in the formula to force it to recalc Fill left down etc as you require. Good Luck, A. |
