    Yes it is the links on footer and are bad as they create more outbound links.... please do lemme know more about this.

    Footer links are required and you can use global footer for your website. With this you can divert user with required destination.

    I think the footer link that you optimize is depend with the SEO method that you optimize. If you not too over optimize with your footer link method, its safe for your site performance.

    They can be very useful from a consumer encounter point-of-view. If you think that your guests will discover this area of your website useful to get around to appropriate places of your website that they might be enthusiastic about then I would be in favor of using such an strategy.

    As per my opinion sidebar and footer links are less powerful than contextual links. And it can harm your existing rankings of your website.
