There is no special reason to use pipeline or comma, but it is choice of the person what to use. For Search engine and user comma or pipeline is not important, it is used only for separate the words or keywords and to make it more readable. Personally I use mostly comma because when we use pipeline it takes 2 spaces before and after but when we use comma there is only one space after comma not before, so that way we can show more words in SERP.

just simple to segregate your key phrases.

Yes, I agree with your information. There is no any special use of Pipeline. It just separate two keyword phrase. I mostly use comma instead of Pipeline.

yes. Its just way to differentiate keywords. If u not interested to use pipe line or comma , can go with descriptive title.

Because it is work as "OR" operator. Some website owner add with Dash(-) or comma(,) but I strongly suggest you to use pipe( | ) in place of other tags.

There is not a specific reason for that but you can use any of sign. Mostly we use pipe as a keyword separator it also looks good.
