My site is http://www.geocities.com/no1conners/index.html
What I'd like to know is I get a lot of visitors that agree with what my site is about. How do I attract those that I'm trying to educate and hopefully give them some insite and possibly changing their view? I KNOW I have lots of errors. It's my first web page and I'm a newbie, so I'm not asking for that kind of advice. Just want an opposing audience to visit too. |

Best way is try and get it indexed in the searched engines, so that people can find it.
1. Search google and others for sites like yours - or those that give the opposing view, noting what kewords got results. 2. Make sure your site's content uses those keywords in a meaningful manner. In headings and body text. 3. Use meta tags with the same keywords, but don't go ott with them - some engines will punish you for that. Also try not to make visitors feel that they have been tricked in to visiting. Finally, Shasta is a beauty ![]() |

Thanks elijathegold! I tried to tip the scales but got an invalid thingamabob pop up. Sorry! When you say meta tags, how exactly do I put them up and where? I can't use FrontPage or they turn into funny signs inside them and don't work, so I would have to include it myself. How exactly do I write the line to make it a meta tag? Could you give me the code and I can add the key words? Also, do I add a word, or two and then seperate them with comma's? What do you mean about visitors feeling tricked? And finally, both Shasta and I thank you for the compliment. ![]() |

You and Shasta are welcome
![]() What I mean by feeling tricked is ... You are looking to educate people who have the opposite opinion to those expressed in your site. What you don't want to do is use keywords and content that will make them think your site supports their views. If you do, when they arrive, they will feel tricked and already have a negative view of your site. At which point, you are less likely to be able to change their minds. The balance (which can be quite difficult to achieve) is to make sure sure that your site is found when searching for both the same and the opposite opinion while making it clear which one you support. I hope that made some sense. mhere's link covers meta tags very well. |

I know what you're saying...I think, but would it be possible for you to suggest an example to put me on the right track? For example: the tag would list the 'Breed Specific Legislation', the 'banning of Pit bulls and other like dogs' so I would have to write I oppose these issues? And what about amendments? How would I write a tag for amending something that may or may not happen? Or...have I still not got the right idea of what a tag really is all about? I thought fighting was hard enough, now trying to get across to the other side seems harder still. ![]() On the other hand...if we can win this, Shasta and I will certainly have you to thank for all your help! |

Thats probably fine for your meta tags, your content should use the same terms in your text and headings in the context of opposing these things in such a way that it reads correctly (dont just put a load of invisible text saying "banning of pit bulls"). Google uses meta tags, but is far more interested in the text of your site. I'm sure your text does do this, but I haven't looked at the entire site.
Make sure that the meta description tag is used and that this gives a good idea of what the page is about. Again making clear which side of the argument you are on. Some search engines will display this description, others will display a bit of relevant text from the page. Also remember that this should be done for every page. Search Engine Optimisation is a scary black art. Don't worry about being perfect, making the effort is more than most sites seem to do ![]() |

You just HAD to add this last sentence just to scare me huh! LOL To get off subject here, every time I click on the scales I get an invalid link come up with a message saying I typed it in wrong or to contact the (I think it said...ok, I forget, but something) master. Anyway I did. So hopefully that will resolve that problem. You've given me so much excellent advice that the least I can do for you is tip the scales. BTW... when it asks about points, does it mean mine or yours? AND...am I suppose to up yours or put where you are at? Us newbies must ask the same questions over and over again that you guys must get sick of hearing them all over again. *giggle* |

There is a problem with some security software [url=http://forums.aspfree.com/t63570/s.html]http://forums.aspfree.com/t63570/s.html[url] is a post that deals with it.
The points is how many points you think the help is worth, upto your reputation power. Currently you can increase or decrease someones rep by 0 points. Although most of us appreciate the feedback regardless. The effect you have on someones rep will increase as you post more and spend more time here. |
